Dear Friend Of Upland Hills School,
Despite what you may have read, not all
the news coming from Michigan is doom
and gloom. Even in the face of the
economic difficulty our state continues
to endure, we feel blessed to report our
school is flourishing in ways that serve
as a testament to our community and
renew our excitement about the very idea
of education.
There is no way to overstate the good
news embodied by the eighty-three
wonderful students who report each day
to their morning meeting teacher. Thanks
in no small part to the way friends,
parents and alumni like you have served
as ambassadors for our school, we've
been able to achieve full enrollment in
a challenging time. Our classes are
full. Our learning community is
thriving.
Our close relationship with Upland Hills
Farm continues to enrich our school in
fresh, new ways. By purchasing shares in
a community supported agriculture
initiative started at the farm, we were
able to offer a unique cooking class
this fall. Students harvested fresh
organic vegetables, prepared a dish and
then shared it with the entire school.
This kind of hands-on learning taught
important lessons to our students about
healthy eating, the origin of the food
we eat and sustainable ways of living.
(And the baba ganoush wasn't half bad
either.)
In the coming weeks, we hope to announce
a grant that will help us realize our
goal of adding a solar array to the roof
of our school. We see becoming a net
energy provider as our opportunity to
serve a as role model for our
surrounding community - providing an
example of how Michigan can achieve a
brighter future by embracing the
technologies of renewable energy.
While there's much to be excited about
at Upland Hills, we're also keenly aware
of the economic uncertainty and
fragility surrounding our state and our
world. For that reason, we hope you'll
consider a 100% tax-deductible gift that
will help insure our learning community
continues to thrive and grow.
You might consider being a "Bridge
Builder" with a donation of $1000 or
more. Or maybe you can afford a $500
donation to Nancy's Fund for direct
tuition assistance. Even a $10 or $25
gift can directly affect the life of one
of our students. For added convenience,
you can even give on-line at
uplandhills.org.
Even in these trying times, there's
reason to be hopeful that a brighter
future is waiting for our children and
our world. With your continued support,
we believe we can realize it together.
Thank you.
